DIFFERENT TYPES OF TOOTH DISCOLOURATIONS AND ITS CAUSES

Tooth discoloration is one of the most common problem among many of the individuals where the tooth loses its natural colour and shade due to various  external and internal factors. These mostly happens to people who does not take proper care of their teeth and maintain proper oral hygiene. This can occur in people of any age groups These are mainly classified into :- ~ Extrinsic  ~ Intrinsic ~ Age-related factors . Extrinsic factors occurs on the outer surface of the teeth, mainly due to the stains or residues from various types of beverages or food substances and use of tobacco products. Intrinsic stains occurs inside the tooth due to the penetration of the stains into the outer layers of the tooth. Sometimes it can also occur due to the defect in the internal tissues or due to the excessive fluoride Intake. Age-related discoloration occurs as due to the wearing away of  the outer enamel layer and the exposure of inner dentine which shows yellowish colour. PRE
