WHEN DO YOU HAVE A TOOTH PAIN ??

COMMON CAUSES OF TOOTHACHE 

Decay in tooth(Dental caries approaching pulp)

Infection/Abscess inside the tooth

- Fracture of tooth involving pulp 

Severe infection of gums (Periodontitis)

Impacted tooth


SYMPTOMS!!

Bad taste/Halitosis.
Severe sharp ,constant,throbbing pain of tooth on percussion or applying pressure and while chewing food.
Increase of pain intensity during night time.
 Swelling around the affected region.

WHEN TO VISIT A DENTIST??

If the pain persist for more than 1 or 2 days.
 Pain while opening mouth and have mild fever.

WHAT DENTIST DOES WHEN YOU VISIT!

Dentist 1st obtains your medical history(Diabetic,hypertension,drug allergy,heart disease,undergoing any specific medication etc)
Then asks for detailed history of present illness such as Nature of pain, incidence of pain,intensity of pain,location,whats makes it better and worse etc.
- Then the dentist do an oral examination of teeth,oral mucosa,tongue,palate,gums,or any associated lesion etc.
- Does pulp vitality test.
- Then takes an IOPA (intraoralperiapicalradiograph)X-ray for the purpose of diagnosis 
 Diagnose the problem(irreversible pulpitis,periapical abscess,periodontitis,granuloma,cyst etc)

TREATMENT DENTIST DOES  !!
Root canal treatment is done to save the tooth, followed by placement of a dental crown on the tooth for the purpose of protection from further distortion.
Extraction of tooth with administration of local anesthesia followed by fixed prosthesis to replace it with artificial tooth.

WHAT TO DO TO PREVENT SUCH A CONDITION ??!
- Maintaining good oral hygiene
Brushing with proper technique involving all the surface of the teeth
Cleaning tongue
Usage of fluoridated tooth paste as fluorine is a anti caries agent.
- Flossing once daily
- Wash mouth after every meal 
Avoid alcohol consumption and smoking 
Reduce sugar intake and high calorie diet and drinks
