HOW TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH? WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS CAUSED BY WRONG BRUSHING TECHNIQUE?

All of us have already developed the habit of brushing our teeth daily..

But are you doing it the right way?

Yes, there is a proper way to brush your teeth.

If you are doing it the wrong way, it may cause sensitivity, bad breath, and can harm your gums.

Here are the do's and Don'ts of brushing your teeth that you need to know.

~ USING WRONG TOOTH BRUSH

You should be using a toothbrush with the right head size, preferably a smaller one with soft nylon bristles for your teeth. Hard ones could hurt your gums and lead to tooth abrasion which exposes the roots of the teeth.
Also, if you are wearing orthodontic braces it can also damage the metal as well.
Often we find an electric toothbrush can provide a more thorough cleaning in a less time than a manual toothbrush.

~ USING WRONG BRUSHING TECHNIQUE

Typically, some people only make back and forth motion to clean their teeth. But actually we wanted to make a circular motion to make sure that we are cleaning even our gums.
After this gently sweep, your brush away from the teeth to make sure you remove all the debris away from that area.
Also for your front teeth you insert it vertically and make the same circular motion.
Make sure you clean every corner of your mouth including the gums, tongue and all surfaces of your teeth.

~ INADEQUATE BRUSHING

Don't rush and quickly finish the brushing just for the sake of brushing. Brush twice daily for a minimum of 60 seconds and a maximum of 2 minutes. This can lead to tooth cavities following pain and gums diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis in future.

~ REPLACEMENT OF TOOTH BRUSHES

A brush needs to be replaced once in every three months.
Once the bristles start to bend they are no longer cleaning efficiently. After three months of normal wear and tear, toothbrushes are much less effective at removing plaque from teeth and gums compared to new ones.

~ USING TOO MUCH OF TOOTH PASTE

A good toothpaste that contains adequate amount of fluoride should be used.
You should be using little amount of toothpaste each time.

~ WRONG TIME OF BRUSHING

Soon after a meal, the mouth is in an acidic state and the teeth are soft.
Brushing during this time can cause damage to your teeth and it's better to wait at least for 30 minutes after a meal before you brush your teeth.

~ FORGETTING THE GUMLINES

The gum line is where bacteria build up more quickly if not cleaned adequately.
A gentle massage with a soft bristled flexible toothbrush on the gum line is a must.

~ NOT FLOSSING YOUR TEETH

When you brush your teeth and you don't floss you are leaving behind plaque in between your teeth. Plaque left in between your teeth produces acid which destroys your gums and teeth, leading to gum disease and inflammation which is a precursor to a lot of inflammatory diseases in the body.
Also it can cause bad breath. So it's important to floss your teeth after brushing inorder to protect your gums.

~ STORAGE OF BRUSH

Clean your toothbrush after every use and it should be stored in a way, giving it a chance to air out completely. Storing the brush in an airtight container or in a glass with liquid allows the bacteria to grow on your bristles and can harm your overall health condition.

FACT : "Brushing your teeth hard actually cause more harm to teeth than good. A rough brushing can damage your enamel, irritate your gums and cause several oral health problems  such as sensivity and increased chance for cavities"
