DENTAL TREATMENT'S SAFE DURING PREGNANCY
Most of the dental treatments are considered safe and important during pregnancy, except traumatic dental surgeries and certain medications given during any treatments.
Maintaining proper oral hygiene is very important during pregnancy periods as
there is a greater chance of developing gum diseases and dental caries due to food habits and hormonal changes during this period.
There is 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester in pregnancy.

2nd trimester (14-26 weeks)
3rd trimester (27-40 weeks)
There is a greater risk of miscarriage in the first trimester compared with other two,
So there should be proper care taken while doing any procedure is this period of time.
Ideally, all dental treatments or elective dental treatments can be performed second prime ministers.
Several studies have proved that 2nd trimester is the safest for any dental treatment (13th week to 21st week.)
~ Oral prophylaxis ( Scaling and polishing )
Safe in all trimesters
~ Dental fillings/restorations are safe in all trimesters
~ Root canal procedure is comparitively safe in 2nd trimester than the other trimesters because of the invlovement of x rays.
~ Administration of local anaesthesia( low concentrated) during dental procedures are safe in all trimesters of pregnancy
~ Even though modern dental X rays use very low dose radiations, still the dental radiographs are advised only if necessary with protective measures such as lead aprons.
~ Oral surgeries should be postponed ,if in extreme cases it is done in the 2nd trimester.
~ There is no harm in giving patients removable and fixed dentures during pregnancy period.
~ Undergoing or continuing orthodontic treatments are safe during pregnancy period, but still sometimes postponed after delivery
